It is the desire of CCCC that every Ukrainian would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, mature in their faith, and become partners in the great commission through the local church. We have partnered with The Ocean Team in L’viv, Ukraine who also share this same heart for their city and nation.
Facts about Ukraine
The nation of Ukraine is a former region of the Soviet Union, located just north of the Black Sea. L’viv is the unofficial capital of culture and nationalism for Western Ukraine.
Population: about 50 million
Size: just smaller than Texas
Literacy Rate: 98%
Language(s): Russian and Ukrainian
Religion: Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Atheism
Christianity has a long history in Ukraine. For the last thousand years most Ukrainians were baptized as infants in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church or Ukrainian Catholic Church. Significant life events such as weddings, funerals, and holidays have traditionally been celebrated in these churches. Both of these traditional churches were marginalized during the communist rule when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union. Political and social freedom from Russia came in the 1990’s. Ukraine is the largest country of the “new” Europe: bigger than France but smaller than Texas. It has about 50 million people. But now Ukrainian society is facing the western plagues of spiritual darkness: corruption, breakdown of the family, cynicism, selfishness, sexual promiscuity, alcohol and drug abuse, AIDS, hopelessness, and a rising number of economically and socially isolated groups like orphans, widows, and disabled.
A growing number of Ukrainian Christians believe that “full devotion to Christ” is the answer for Ukraine. Our church has entered into partnership with the Missionary Department of L’viv State. This group of Ukrainian evangelical Christians plan to start 100 new churches in their State (L’viv) in the next 10 years. These Ukrainian Christians have asked us to focus our resources and efforts in and around the capitol city of L’viv State, also called L’viv. They have identified an urban area where there is no church that is able to lead unchurched people to full devotion to Christ.
In response, our church has designed a mission project called Go Ukraine. Through Go Ukraine people like you can use their skills in projects designed to meet needs of L’viv residents. Through these short-term Go Ukraine projects, our Ukrainian Christian partners will expand their influence and lead Ukrainians who are far from God into a relationship with Christ. Some of the projects we have done in the past include: English Schools, organized for interested residents of the area where the new church is planned, where our church volunteers go and speak English with Ukrainians and our local partners develop relationships; Children’s Day Camps, where Go Ukraine provides volunteers to organize crafts, dramas, music, games, and other crucial elements to a special community outreach for children when their regular school is on holiday; and other planned projects include Technology, Construction, Marriage and Family Seminars, Biblical Counseling, Music, Drama, Medical, and Youth Camps.
